The shrine of Hazrat Shah Niyamatullah’s Shrine, located in the Tahakhana complex, just half a kilometer away from the small Sona Mosque in Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj district, is well known as an ancient monument of Mughal architecture. Hazrat Shah Syed Neyamat Ullah (RA) is one of the famous saints of the sixteenth century. He was a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and was a patriarchal saint, scholar and spiritual guru. During the reign of Sultan Shah Sujar, he traveled from Coronia in Delhi to various places and came to the palace of Ferozepur.
The Sultan of Bengal, Shah Shuja, greeted him with great respect and accepted the bayat. Later, he established a permanent abode on the outskirts of Gaur in Ferozepur and preached Islam for 33 long years. He was buried at this place after his death in the year 1060 AH.
30-35 meters north of Tahakhana is the tomb of Shah Neyamat Ullah surrounded by the walls of the mosque. Surrounded by trees and bricks, the square-shaped tomb is 49 feet long on each side. There are 12 arched paths, 3 on the east, west and south sides of the tomb. That is why this shrine is called Barduari. The main room of the tomb is adorned with wide verandas, various flowers and leafy trees. It is believed that there are tombs of Hazrat Shah Syed Neyamat Ullah (R) ‘s servants and family members in the tomb premises.
“Orash” is observed in this shrine on the first Muharram of every year as the day of birth and death of Hazrat Shah Neyamat Ullah. It is said that on the last Friday of the month of Bhadra, Hazrat Shah Neyamat Ullah was the first to enter Gaur to spread Islam. That is why a different religious Orash is organized on the last Friday of the month of Bhadra as a virtuous day. After Asr on Thursday, there is an all-night remembrance, on Friday after Jumma, a ghilaf is received by the descendants of Pir Sahib at the shrine of Hazrat and Milad mahfil is organized in the evening. Every day innumerable devotees and visitors from far and wide gather at the shrine of this great saint.
Tomb of Shah Neyamatullah
Hazrat Shah Neyamatullah’s mausoleum is located at Tohakhana in Shibganj upazila. His tomb is a quadrangle with twelve doors. There are 2/3 doors on each side. The script here is an Arabic script of the Hussain Shahi era. It was later installed. There are graves of a few more devotees and their family members in this tomb. The tomb of Hazrat Shah Neyamatullah is adorned with trees and surrounded by a brick wall. Every day many people visit his shrine and are successful. The first Muharram is known as the day of birth and death of Hazrat Shah Noamatullah. On this day, ‘Urs Palan’ is celebrated here every year. Also another Urs is celebrated here on the last Friday of the month of Bhadra. Most people gather here on this day. Many people think that this day is more of a virtue. It is said that Hazrat was the first to enter Gaur on this day to spread Islam. On this occasion, an all-night ‘Jaker’ was held after the Asr prayers on Thursday. Milad Sharif was recited on Thursday evening by the Urs Committee. A ‘Mazar Management Committee’ has been formed with the Chapainawabganj Deputy Commissioner as ex-officio chairman. Apart from religious businessmen and government employees, it has many notable members. On Fridays, after Jumma, the shrine of Hazrat is covered with a chador. How to Go
From Dhaka, Chapainawabganj can be reached by road and rail. Good quality buses like Mordan, Hanif or Shyamoli ply from different parts of the capital to Chapainawabganj. From Kamalapur Railway Station you can reach Kopotaksh, Titumir, Silk City and Padma Express by train to Chapainawabganj via Rajshahi. You can rent a CNG or autorickshaw from the district town of Chapainawabganj and visit the shrine of Shah Neyamat Ullah, about 26 km away.

Chapainawabganj has a number of residential hotels like Hotel Raj, Hotel Al Nahid, Hotel Swapnapuri, Hotel Rangdhanu, Hotel Nazma, and Hotel Sky View. You can also stay overnight at the District Council’s Dak Bungalow and Circuit House with permission.
